Jill Althouse-Wood is an artist and a writer living and working in the utopian, artist colony of Arden, Delaware, just north of Wilmington. After obtaining a BFA in Fiber Arts from the University of Delaware, Jill worked and lived for many years in Lancaster County as a textile designer– a job which informs her sense of pattern and color. Since moving to her home in the Sherwood Forest of Arden in 2013, her art has taken on the rhythms of her surroundings. She paints forest and nature scenes in various degrees of abstraction. Recently, in response to political upheaval and fractiousness, she has added female archetypes to her landscapes. Through the addition of these figures, Jill explores the forest as a place of mystery, uncertainty, danger, obstacle, and, ultimately, transformation. In 2023, Jill was awarded the prestigious Emerging Artist Fellowship in painting from Delaware Division of the Arts. She is a founding member of the Arden Artisans Collective. Check out her website!
