SUMMARY:Poetry Reading and Book Signing
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a poetry reading and book signing with Elizabeth Weaver-Kreider and Kara Valore! Poetry readings will start at 6:15pm\, with book signing and conversation after. The shop will be open during this event! \n\n\n\nThe Heretic’s Book of Prayer\, by Elizabeth Weaver-Kreider\, is a Fool’s Tale\, a journey story of transformation and self-naming\, told in poetry. It follows the Mysteries of the Rosary: Joyful\, Sorrowful\, Glorious. At the beginning\, the winsome Fool sets out on a journey\, eager for adventure. The tone changes as she faces accusation and inquisition and exile\, losing the thread of her own story. In the last third of the book\, she sets off again\, this time determined to live on her own terms\, choosing her own name and the identity of heretic rather than clipping her wings to fit into patriarchal and religious institutional boxes. These poems are full of reverence and rage\, trauma and hope\, resilience and fierce love. \n\n\n\nKara Valore is the author of Where the Compass Points (I. Giraffe Press). Kara’s work has appeared in Anti-Heroin Chic\, Autumn Sky Poetry DAILY\, Bards Against Hunger Pennsylvania Anthology\, DarkWinter Literary Magazine\, GrassLimb\, Skinny Poetry Journal\, and others. Kara’s earlier poetry has appeared in regional publications such as Pennsylvania Poetry Society anthologies as well as Yorkfest Literary Competitions in her hometown of York\, Pennsylvania where she currently resides. Suzanne Craig-Whytock\, Editor-in Chief of DarkWinter Literary Magazine\, says of Where the Compass Points: “Kara Valore takes the reader on a compelling journey with hope and healing as a destination.”

DESCRIPTION:with Community Herbalist\, Sarah Preston \n\n\n\n                \n\n\n\nMugwort\, Artemesia vulgaris\, is named for the moon goddess\, Artemis. Long used for dream enhancement\, Mugwort is also a traditional prayer plant\, sacred to the element of Fire. \n\n\n\nJoin Sarah in the garden for this afternoon class during the waning moon as we approach the New Moon.  Deepen your relationship to this magical plant. We will meet the plant spirit in meditation\, harvest respectfully\, tie smudge sticks\, start an oil infusion\, and sip Sarah’s Dreamtime tea.  There will be a limited number of relevant herbal products available for sale.  Each participant will take home the smudge bundle they have tied. Class size is limited\, so we recommend registering in advance.  Cost for this afternoon workshop with Sarah is $30\, $35 on the day of the class if space is still available.    \n\n\n\nRegister online here\, call Radiance at 717-290-1517\, or stop by the shop at 13 W. DESCRIPTION:Originally scheduled for earlier this Spring\, and postponed when a family member contracted Covid\, we have now rescheduled this reception! \n\n\n\nRobert says\, “Now that I’ve defied COVID and even a blast of pneumonia\, the reception for my latest show of recent paintings has been rescheduled for July 1 at Radiance here in Lancaster. “Dark days: New paintings from isolation\, tribulation and the pandemic” includes 23 pictures responding\, after a fashion\, to the perspectives of the past two years. Included are a number of oil pictures on linen or wood\, as well as a selection of watercolors. The reception will be held at Radiance from 4:30-7 p.m. on July 1\, as part of downtown Lancaster’s First Friday\, so please plan to attend. I certainly will be there. \n\n\n\nRobert Rhodes lives and paints in Lancaster\, Pennsylvania.  He is a familiar figure walking around town\, gathering inspirations. \n\n\n\nRobert is a prolific artist\, and his paintings hang in private collections around the world. \n\n\n\nRobert says\, “To me\, my paintings are primarily emotional statements — landscapes and likenesses of memory and situations.” \n\n\n\nPlease stop in and have a look. DESCRIPTION:Herbs from the Labyrinth\, LLC private garden\, 1053 Wheatland Avenue\, Lancaster.  Park on the street\, follow the path around the right side of the house\, come through the gate and into the garden. \n\n\n\nWe are asking that each person bring a smooth grapefruit-sized (or larger) stone as a gift to the labyrinth.  Children are welcome\, but keep in mind that this is a quiet\, contemplative practice.
