(Capsicum annum)
Cayenne chili peppers, scientifically known as Capsicum annuum, belong to the Solanaceae or nightshade plant family, which also includes tomatoes, eggplant, and potatoes.
Sometimes simply called “chili”, they are widely used in cooking. Sometimes compounded as a cream, rarely brewed into a tea. We include them in our Dragon’s Breath tonic vinegar.
Peppers do not cause heartburn or ulcers. Eating foods seasoned with cayenne or chili may even protect the stomach against damage by aspirin, ibuprofen or other NSAID pain relief medications.
Capsaicin creams can reduce itching in psoriasis. Don’t touch your eyes with your hands after you have handled capsaicin cream.
