Rehmannia glutinosa is one of the 50 fundamental herbs used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Also referred to as shu di huang, rehmannia root is employed in TCM for its healthful attributes. Rehmannia root slices are typically decocted as tea.
The species name glutinosa comes from glutinous, referring to the sticky nature of the root. The Rehmannia root we get from Mountain Rose Herbs is steamed. The root may be prepared as a decoction. In order to prevent feelings of heaviness or indigestion, prepare with cardamom or ginger. Rehmannia belongs to the Scrophulariaceae plant family.
