Each April we celebrate National Poetry Month to celebrate poets and to honor the important role poetry plays in a larger culture. We hope you’ll join us for this special event on Friday evening, April 11, 2025, from 6-8pm

This year we gather to support one another in community during a difficult time. We find and express our creativity, our strength, our passion and compassion, perhaps even our rage. Together we lift each other up, protect our collective center, and hold on to our visions for creating a more just and loving world. Poetry can allow us to say what is in our hearts, and to witness the joys and struggles of others.

As Toni Morrison said:
“This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language.”

At our Poet-Tree for the Times We Are In, we will have the pleasure of listening to poems from a powerful collection of local poets, including Daina Savage (former Lancaster Poet Laureate), Beth Weaver-Kreider, Le Hinton, and Lisa Munson. Each of these published poets will have their own books available for purchase and signing.

As we listen, we glean images, ideas and phrases that speak directly to us. Then, using a guided creative form, in meditation, we will each write a poem and hang it on our Poet-Tree. And then, as a group, we will co-create a poem.

No experience is necessary, just your open and passionate heart!

For the protection of everyone attending the class, if you have any symptoms of cold, flu, or any other virus, we ask that you not attend.

We hope you’ll join us for this very special and inspiring Poetry evening! Cost is $20 per person, and you can register here, call (717) 290-1517, or stop in the shop! If you register online, be sure to choose Local Pickup so that you aren’t charged for shipping!
