White Pine Salve has traditionally been used as a drawing salve for splinters, boils and cysts. First Nations considered both the resin and needles to have medicinal value. The resin, which has some antiseptic properties, was smeared on wounds as a healing ointment and was boiled up to make a tonic drink. The needles, rich in vitamin C, made a tea that helped prevent and treat scurvy.
Topically, pine is used to address skin infections and to lessen joint inflammation in arthritic conditions.
Could also be used as a chest rub to help break up congestion.
