Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca) grows in many parts of my gardens. I find it calming just to sit beside her. And the bees love the flowers!
She is an especially good friend to many menopausal women, used for reducing or eliminating hot flashes and heart palpitations. Her Latin name translates as “Lion Heart”, and tells of of her heart strengthening energies. She helps to quiet heart palpitations that are caused by the hormone fluctuations during peri-menopause.
Some women find that when they are ingesting Motherwort in some form, they have a gentle sense of well-being. She sometimes increases menstrual flooding in women who are prone to it.
